ABOUT THE PRODUCT
The omega-3 supplement is a Norwegian omega-3 product combining refined herring oil, fish oil concentrate, vitamin D and natural antioxidants from extra virgin olive oil. The effect of this combination is well documented, and the mixture is patented in Norway and Europe and has a US Patent pending.
In order to provide our recommended 1 g of omega-3 fatty acids per day – a high quality concentrated omega-3 fish oil has been added. It also includes a high level of DPA which is an omega-3 long chain fatty acid that studies have shown is the most important fatty acid in the prevention of cardiovascular disease – the beneficial effect might be provided by this fatty acid that has been reported on blood platelets. Most fish oils on the market contain little or no DPA.
THE RESEARCH
The oil is based on more than 20 years of research by professor (biochemistry) emeritus Bjarne Østerud and professor Edel O. Elvevold. Bjarne Østerud found the original inspiration for the research from self-interest. Genetic dispositions of early heart disease in his family necessitated finding a dietary supplement that could prevent a premature death. Professor Østerud received in 2006 the Norwegian King Medal of Merit for his research.
The combination of the oils has been independently tested in a cholesterol sensitive mouse model and shown to reduce atherosclerotic lesion formation by 56.7% and reduce cholesterol
by 33%.
THE HEALTH BENEFITS
The special combination of marine oil and olive oil together makes the oil blend very beneficial in terms of cardiovascular problems, such as blood clots, stroke, psoriasis and arthritis. It is also beneficial against numerous autoimmune diseases that are all associated with inflammatory
reactions. This is because olive oil contains excellent anti-inflammatory components.
One of them, oleocanthal, has also been shown to have ibuprofen -like effects with a natural anti-inflammatory property. This has been published in the renowned journal Nature in 2005. Today we know that the development of most diseases is associated with inflammation.
